A distinguished scholar, art collector and writer of repute, Shri Agar Chand Nahata is devoted to writing and editing for the last 45 years. Besides 45 books written by him,his 4000 articles have appeared in about 300 journals and magazines.
He has collected about 50,000 hand written scriptures and 50,000 published books in Abhaya Jain Library and about 1000 paintings and hundreds of old coins and old statues and art material in Surya Shankar Dan Nahata Kala Bhawan, Bikaner.
He is Director of the above organisations and Rajasthani Sahitya Parishad and ex- Director of Sail Rajasthani Research Institute, Bikaner. He is associated as editor with several journals and publications. Shri Nahata has guided more than 100 scholars in their research work and provided useful literary material to thousands of persons.
He has published lists of more than 70,000 hand written scriptures including many unknown Jain Granthas lying in oblivion. He has written the preface of more than 50 books. After thorough study he has brought to notice of the numerous writers the errors in their works and publications for correction in the subsequent editions.
Son of Shri Shankar Dan Nahata, Shri Agar Chand Nahata was born at Bikaner in Rajasthan on March 19, 1911, Shri Nahata is associated with Shri Jindutt Suri Sewa Sangh, Anand Ji Kalayanji Perhi, Nagri Pracharani Sabha, Jain Pathshala Samiti, Bikaner, Dharmik Shikshan Samiti. Temple Management Committee and Mahavir Mandal, etc.
He has been honoured with the title of ‘Sidhantacharya’, ‘Jain Itihas Ratna’ ‘Vidya Varidhi’ and ‘Samaj Ratna. He has been honoured and awarded a cash prize of Rs. 2500/- by Vir Nirwan Bharati in 1974. Residence: Nahton Ki Gawar, Bikaner.
