Pt. Hira Lai Jain son of Shri Ram Prasad Jain was born at Lalitpur (U. P.) on May 11, 1914. He has throughout been a brilliant student obtaining silver and gold medals. He studied at Lalitpur, Sir Hukam Chand Dig. Jain Mahavidyalaya, Indore (1928-36) and passed Shastri and Nyayatirtha examinations.
Mahatma Gandhi had presented him the Sahityaratna examination certificate which he passed in 1934 from Hindi Sahitya Sammelan, Allahabad. He was an honorary teacher in Hindi Sahitya Samiti Vidyapith, Indore and on the editorial board of its monthly magazine ‘Vina’.
As a missionary, in 1936 he gave education in Hindi to the Gujaratis at Surat. For his services, Hindi Sahitya Sammelan made him a member of its Standing Committee. Since 1938 he is language and moral education teacher in Hira Lai Jain Hgr. Secondary School. In 1940 he was honoured with the title of ‘Vidya Bhushan’.
He gave free education to the poor adults and religious education to college students.
He edited Jain Prachark for 10 yrs. and also several books. His articles appear in magazines. He is President of Jain Vidwat Samiti and Jain Sidharta Granthamala, Delhi and Committee Member of A. I. Jain Vidwat Parishad, Varni Granthamala, Varanasi and several other All India and local bodies.
For his educational services of high merit, he received the State Honour at Teachers’ Day on 5th Sept., 1972. He has been honoured with the title of ‘Vidwat Ratna’ and awarded a cash prize of Rs. 2500/- by Vir Nirwan Bharati during 1974.
