Panagar is an old city lying on Jabalpur-Katni way. It was once a very prosperous city but now plenty of broken fragments of beautiful Jain temples & idols of Kalchuri Art & sculpture are found in this region. Panagar is also famous for magnificent standing idol of Bhagwan Shantinath that belongs to 10-11 century. The sign of idol can not be seen because the lower portion below feet is embedded inside the earth. This idol of Bhagwan Shantinath was found 3 km away from here by digging the earth near ‘Pond Baleha’. A miraculous & attractive 5 feet high idol of Bhagwan Parshvanath in Padmasana posture is also present here.
Shri Dig. Jain Bada Mandir is main temple of Panagar where 9 feet high, extra ordinary and artistic idol of Bhagwan Shantinath in Khadgasana posture is present as principal deity. Another ancient, beautiful and 5 feet high idol of Bhagwan Parshvanath in Padmasana posture is also present in this temple. There are 13 altars in this area. The attractive idols of forth period are seated in ‘Panchayati Mandir’ and are worth being seen.
