Shri Banarsi Das Oswal son of late Shri Milkhi Ram Oswal is highly respectable elderly person among the Jains of Delhi because of his congenial, smiling and accomodating nature and sincere services rendered to the society in many fields. He was born at Hoshyarpur in Punjab.
He came to Delhi in 1906 and established M/s. B. Das Oswal in Sadar Bazar for business in blades, playing cards and imports. It was the only importing firm in Northern India of Arco Playing Cards, Chickago. He established M/s. Oswal Playing Cards in 1937.
The Oswal Printing Press was set up in 1937 and Das Thread Ball Manufacturing Co. in 1938. The main firm M/s. Banarsi Das Prem Chand Oswal in Chapakhana Street Sadar Bazar, which deals in wholesale trade in thread balls, hosiery and general merchandise was established in 1952.
Shri Oswal was an office bearer in Sadar Bazar Thread Ball Manufacturing Association (Regd.) and a member of the Executive Committee of Sadar Bazar Trade Association for 10 years. He is a peace loving man and put in special efforts to maintain brotherhood in communnally tense situation during 1947through Sadar Bazar Peace Committee.
His services to the society are manifold. He was associated with 18 institutions. He was a Trustee of Jain Baradari, Chandni Chowk during 1938-52 and member of the Mg. Committee of Mahavir Jain Hr. Sec. School for 12 years. He was Treasurer of Swetamber Sthanakwasi Jain Sabha Kolhapur and is its Vice-President since 1970.
He is Trustee of Sabzimandi Jain Sthanak since 1946, President of Bhabho Biradari Jain Sangh Delhi since 1968 and President of Sthanakwasi Jain Mahasangh Delhi since 1970. He was married to late Smt. Natho Devi Oswal in 1924 and has three sons and two daughters. The eldest son Shri Prem Chand Oswal is a well known social person connected with many institutions.
