Shri Adishwar Prasad Jain, a social figure of high repute, was born at Delhi on March 13, 1919 in a well known Jain family. Zeal to social work is in his blood. His father late Sh. Umrao Singh Jain, a founder member of Jain Mittra Mandal, was associated with several All India and local institutions and was a meritorius social worker.
A brilliant student althrough Shri A.P. Jain stood first in school classes and secured highest marks in religion. He did his B.A. (Hons) and M.A. in Economics from Delhi University in 1937 and 1939.
He started his service career in 1939 as an Auditor in the office of the Deputy Accountant General, Post & Telegrapns. Delhi. He joined the Union Public Service Commission in 1941 where he is working as Under Secretary and for his social qualities and amicable disposition is also entrusted with the duties of Welfare Officer, Secretary, Staff Council, President, Departmental Canteen, and President, Benevolent Fund.
In his student life he was Secretary of Student Wing of Jain Khaddar Pracharni Sabha, was greatly motivated and influenced by activities of Shastrarth Sangh, Ambala and founded Jain Dharma Pracharak Sangh and Jain Sudhar Sabha in Delhi.
Attracted by his keenness to social work, late Barrister Champat Rai Jain had appointed him Secretary of ‘Sohan Lai Bankey Rai Jain Academy of Wisdom and Culture’ and later a member of Controlling Authority of his ‘C.R. Jain Trust’. Publicity Secretary of Silver Jubilee Session of A.I. Dig. Jain Parishad in 1948, Ex-Treasurer and Hon. Secretary of Jain Cooperative Bank Delhi, Shri Jain worked as General Secretary of Seminar on Jainism and World Peace and organised Art Exhibition under its auspicies in 1956 in New Delhi. He has been Committee Member of World Jain Mission and ‘Veer Seva Mandir’ and on the Editorial Board of ‘Voice of Ahimsa’, ‘Mahavir Satabdi Sandesh’, ‘Delhi Jain Directory’, Bho- ovalaya Prakashan Samiti’ and ‘Mahavir Jayanti Smarika’. Past President of A.I. Dig. Jain Parishad (Delhi Pr.) and Jain Vidya Mandir, Karol Bagh he has been Vice-President of Jain Sabha New Delhi and Digamber Jain Panchayat, Dev Nagar.
Jain Mittra Mandal, a prominent literary and religious institution, has been most dear to him in his life. He has served this society for over 40 years as Secretary, General Secretary and is at present President of this Mandal and its associated Vardhman Public Library. He is Chief Organiser of annual Mahavir Jayanti grand procession and also Secretary of Jain Samaj Delhi and Ahimsa International. He has been taking active interest in the 25th Centenary Nirwan Celebrations of Bhagwan Mahavir and is Secretary of Delhi Pradesh Mahavir Nirwan Celebrations Committee and also of Delhi Pradesh All India Digamber Jain 2500th Nirwan Celebrations Samiti.
His main hobby is publication and publicity of Jain literature. His abilities to organise public meetings require no commendation.
