Ajaygarh (MP)

Shri Digambar Jain Atishay Kshetra Ajaygarh
Post/Teh: Ajaygarh, Dist: Panna, MP 488 220
Phone nos: 07730 278244, 094259

Nearest city: Panna 32 km.

Ajaygarh is located 32 km from the district Panna in MP. It is also a four hour drive from Khajuraho but the roads are too bad and rutted. The temple constructed on top of the Jaipal hill was built by the Chandel dynasty in the 9th century. But now this temple have lost its glory due to the apathy of the authorities. Trees are beginning to grow all over and the fort looks much older than its age. There are over five hundred steps one need to climb to reach the fort temple.

Inside the temple there is a 12 feet high idol of Tirthankar Shantinath. Alongwith this, idols of Bhagwan Kunthunath and Arahnath are also there. A sahastrakoot Jinalaya is also built here. One can see broken pieces of Jain idols scattered all over. This place is now under Archaeological Survey of India and they have stopped the Puja being done here, only the darshan are permitted.
