Shri Bhatkuli is the changed name of Bhojkut City of ancient state of Vidarbha. This state was established by Rukmi, the brother of Lord Krishna’s chief queen Rukmini. Bhatkuli is famous for an attractive ancient idol of Bhagwan Rishabhdev. The statue is made of Black Stone by King Rukmi during Mahabharat period. This idol was installed by him in a magnificent temple. According to archaeologists this idol is more than 3000 years old. So definitely a chaturth kaal jain idol. In V.S. 1156, this ancient idol was hidden underground in a fort to save it from Mughals. The idol remained burried till the 18th century.
Towards the end of the 18th century, the idol of Bhagwan Rishabhdev came in the dream of the chief of village and guided him about its whereabout. He was told that at the site where the idol was burried, a cow would gives up her milk automatically every day. According to dream the proper place was searched and the digging started. Thus the ancient miraculous idol of Lord Rishabhdev Swami was recovered. People felt their desired fulfilled just by worshipping Bhagwan’s idol here.
