Dr. Jyoti Prasad Jain is a reputed scholar of Jain History, Culture, Philosophy and Literature. He was born at Meerut (U.P.), in 1912. Educated at Meerut College, Meerut and St. Johns College and Agra College, Agra he did his M.A. in History, Political Science and English Literature.
Having served as Compilation Officer and Sub-Editor in the Deptt. of District Gazetteers, U.P. Government, he retired on Dec. 31, 1972. He wrote chapter on History and People of the Gazetteers besides vetting and editing the draft Gazetteers prepared during the period.
He edited Jain Kumar, Chhatra Manasi, English Jain Gazettee and Ahimsa Vani. He is presently Editor of Jain Sidhant Bhaskar, Jaina Antiquary, Voice of Ahimsa etc. More than 600 of his articles in English and Hindi have been published in various magazines, souvenirs, etc. He wrote introductions or forewords for several works, published reviews of several hundred books and about a dozen tracts on different topics and translated into English Jhanajjhayanam an ancient Prakrit text.

Dr. Jain has experience as a College Teacher, businessman and Government Officer. He also took part in the Civil Disobedience Movement of 1930-31.
He is associated with several All India Jain Organisations and many provincial, regional and local institutions.
Dr. Jain was honoured with the title of “Itihasa Ratna” at Bhopal in 1958, He was awarded a prize of Rs. 2500/- and honoured with the title of “Vidya Varidhi” by Vir Nirwan Bharati in January, 1974.
