A brilliant young historical writer Dr. Shashikant Jain, son of Dr. Jyoti Prasad Jain, was born at Meerut (U P) in 1932. He passed his M.A. in 1st Division and obtained Diploma in Russian in 1953 and Ph.D. in 1969 from Lucknow University. He was awarded Sir S. Vardachariar Gold Medal in 1952 and Dr. Radhakumud Mookerji Endowment Scholarship in 1952-53.
He topped the U.P. Civil Sectt. (U D A.) examination. He is presently Section Officer in Law Deptt. of U.P. Secretariat.
Highly social, Dr. Shashikant is associated as founder, President, member with various literary and social institutions. His articles in English and Hindi are published in various magazines and newspapers.
Literary Works : The Hathigumpha Inscription of Kharavela and Bhabru Edict of Asoka-A Critical Study, Kausambi (Hindi), History of Vatasa (Thesis of Ph.D.), Sanskriti Ke Ayam(Hindi), Aspects of Culture, A Critique on India, Kisses and Caresses in Art and Life, India in Retrospect, The Historical States.
His book on Kharavela and Asoka has been very well received in India as well as foreign scholarly circles. He was presented with a scroll of appreciation and a cash award by the Chief Minister of U.P. on Gandhi Jayanti
in 1972 in recognition of his historical research work.
