Foreword
The basic import of the word ‘morality is purity of heart. It consists in standards of virtuous behaviour. He whose heart is not pure can be called virtuous or moral. I do not want to belittle the importance of intellect by saying never it has no relationship with morality. However, do not wish to throw a veil over the truth that that the two are not intimately connected with each other. Morality has an intimate relationship with purity of heart.
He alone can be described as pure and virtuous whose heart is filled with sympathy, compassion, he friendship, good wishes and tolerance for others and who shows self-restraint in his conduct. We have recognized only those standards for the development of morality which are conducive to the growth of purity of heart.
We have come to the conclusion that the following thirteen cardinal virtues are essential for he growth of morality in man. The curriculum for imparting moral instruction in school in the form of these lessons is based on these basic norms of good behaviour:
1. अभय मृदुता सत्यं, आर्जवं करुणा धृति ।
अनासक्तिः स्वावलम्ब स्वशासनं सहिष्णुता ॥
2. कर्तव्यनिष्ठता व्यक्ति गतार्थस्य विसर्जनम् ।
प्रामाणिकत्वं यस्मिन स्युः, नीतिमान् उच्यते नरः ॥

Student-life is the most fertile period for the development of human virtues. Keeping this in view Anuvrat Vihar-an organization dedicated to the spread of Anuvrat ideals-has concentrated. itself on a plan to evolve a scientific course for the imparting of spiritual instruction in schools. The publication of this book is a positive step towards the realization of the goal.
