(1879-1930)
Smt. Maganben, daughter of illustrious Seth Maneck Chand J.P. of Bombay, was married to Shri Khem Chand in 1892. At the young age of only 19 years she unfortunately became a widow in 1898. Inspired by her religious minded and philanthrophist father who was a great Jain leader of his time, this virtuous lady devoted her life to learning of Jain religion and uplift and education to the women.
Her father, Pt. Lalan and Braham- chari Shital Prasad were her religious teachers and guides who encouraged her to take up to social service. She established the first well organised Shravikashram for women in Bombay in 1906 followed by about 30 more and several Women Councils in different parts of the country.
Lalitabai and Kankubai, two other virtuous ladies, were her active associates in this noble work. At a congregation at Banaras in 1913 she was honoured with the title of Jain Mahilaratna. The Government of Bombay had appointed her Justice of Peace.
