Shri Nagphani Parshvanath Digamber Jain Mandir Atishaya Kshetra is situated 12 km away from Bichiwada of Dungarpur District in Rajasthan State. The principal deity of this Kshetra, Bhagwan Parshvanath is installed on the forehead of his disciple Dharnendra. This idol of Parshvanath is quite ancient & artistic.
It is said that this idol was found lying on the top of the hill in the dense forest. An old woman saw the idol and she became devotional after seeing the idol in such state. She started visiting at the place and offering the prayers. One day she prayed “it is difficult for me to climb the hill everyday, from tomorrow I will not come & I will be very gratefully if you show your mercy on me & visit to my village & house.” That night the old woman saw the dream that she should built the cart of Sarkenda and in that she should form ‘Gundi’ of raw cotton and should bring the idol of Bhagwan in that cart. There was one condition that she should not look back while bringing the idol. While bringing the idol, she felt that the cart, which was heavy earlier, has now become light in weight. She thought that it was possible that idol must have fallen from the cart and she turned back to see the matter and found that the idol was there in the cart but as she started the cart again, the cart became standstill and she was not able to pull it further. At last the old woman decided to get the temple constructed at the place where cart became standstill and established the idol of Bhagwan Parshvanath in that. The local and tribal people call this idol as Nagphani Baba and offer their prayers.
The temple is an ancient spired structure. The idol of Bhagwan Parshvanath on the forehead of his disciple Dharnendra is established in the sanctum of the temple. Dharnendra is sitting in Lalitasan & his idol is quite attractive, artistic & ornamented. This idol is famous ‘Nagphani Parshvanath’. The black colored one foot & 4 inch high idol of Bhagwan Mallinath is established on one side of this altar & one foot 3 inch high Padmasana idol of Bhagwan Parshvanath is established on other side of this altar. According to the inscriptions on idol of Bhagwan Mallinath this idol was established in V.S. 1637. Thus this Kshetra is 400 years ancient. The idol of Bhagwan Parshvanath is also present in the door of sanctum of the temple. This idol was established in V.S. 2008.
