Born at Sadhumal in Distt. Jhansi (U.P ) in 1904, Pt. Hiralal passed Visharad and Nyaya-Madhyama examinations from the local pathshala. He did Nyayatirtha from Hukam Chand Dig. Jain Mahavidyalaya, Indore in 1923 and Sidhanta Shastri from Shiksha Mandir, Jabalpur in 1924. Thereafter he taught at Syadwad Mahavidyalaya, Varanasi and Digamber Jain Mahavidyalaya, Biawar, etc. for 12 years. For many years he is managing the work of Ailak Panna Lai Dig. Jain Library and Research Centre at Biawar.
Pt. Hiralal has jointly edited-translated the six volumes of Kshat-Khandagam. He has edited and translated independently 16 important Jain scriptures including Kasayapahud- Sutra (1016 pages), Prakrit Panchsangraha (864 pages), Prameya Ratnamala, Vasunandi- shravakachar, Jin-sahshranam, Jain Dharma- mrit and Karma Prakriti which have been published by Jain Sahityodharak Fund Amra- vati, Vir Shasan Sangh Calcutta, Bharatiya Jnanpith, Chokhamba Sanskrit Series, etc. Shravakachar Sangraha, Parmagamsar Purusharthanushasan edited/translated by him are ready for publication. He is working on several other religious books. More than 200 of his articles have been published in various Jain magazines.
Vir Nirwan Bharati has honoured him with the tittle of ‘Sidhantacharya’ and awarded a cash prize of Rs. 2500/- in 1974.
