Raja Bachraj Nahta

Nawab Asaf-u-ddola, the fourth Nawab of Oudh, (1775—1797) had changed the capital from Faizabad to Lucknow. The increasing development of Lucknow city as a centre of business and trade attracted many Agarwal and Oswal Jain businessmen and jewellers to settle there.

Bachraj Nahta an Oswal Jain, soon made a respectable position in the Oudh court and was honoured with the title of Raja. He also became a leading man of the local Jain society. It is believed that he was personal jeweller of the Nawab and held a senior place in his court.

Bhadaini Ghat at Varanasi goes by the name of Raja Bachraj Ghat where an ancient temple of Tirthankara Suparswanath is situated. He had big landed property at Banaras and intimate contacts with its ruler.
