The habit obviously made man violent and cruel. He started fighting with fellow human beings and the result has been bloody and devastating wars. Man has indulged in unscrupulous, wanton. Wholesale destruction of life for political, religious or personal reasons, such as gluttony, gourmandize, luxury, lust, sport, rapacity, exploitation, loot and plunder. He seems to forget the dictum, ‘a man who want to live by the sward alone, has also to die by the sward’. Violence breeds violence. ‘Wild animals’, remarks J.A. Froude, ‘never kill for sport. Man is the only to whom the torture death of his fellow creatures is amusing in itself.’. Speaking on hunting, Dr. Samuel Johnson also observed, “It is very strange and very melancholy that the paucity of human pleasures should persuade us ever to call hunting one of them. Pleasures which must be enjoyed at the expense of another’s pain, can never be such as a worthy mind can fully delight .” The chief objective behind fishing, poaching and hunting beasts and birds is usually to procure the flesh of the poor victim so hunted and killed. No hunter abstains from eating meat and no vegetarian is ever a hunter. Those non-vegetarians who do not or cannot indulge such hazardous activities as hunting, have the slaughter houses, the butchers’ shops, the fish-market and the poultry farms to cater to their needs and satisfy their carving for eating meat, fish, eggs, etc.
