Worthy of his name, Shri Yashpal Jain is a writer and devoted social reformer of high repute. After doing B.A. in 1935 and LL.B. in 1937 from Allahabad University he chose to become a writer and journalist. He wrote a novel while only a student of 9th class. A regular writer since 1937 he is author of many works particularly on literature and culture. His articles appear in leading Hindi magazines.
Shri Yashpal was first associated with Sasta Sahitya Mandal during 1937-40. He was Editor of fortnightly “Madhukar” published from Tikamgarh (M.P.) during 1940-46. Director of Sasta Sahitya Mandal, New Delhi
since 1946 and Editor of its monthly magazine ‘Jiwan Sahitya. He is now also its Secretary.
A staunch believer of Ahimsa and Panch Mahavratas of Jainism, he has regard for all other religions. Study of Buddhism, particularly the literature of saints, has been of special interest to him. His deep understanding of the ideology of Gandhi and Vinoba has created in him an abiding faith in human values.
He is President of Bharatiya Sahitya Parishad (Delhi), Vice-President of Chitra Kala Sangam, founder-member of Hindi Bhawan and Delhi Rashtra Bhasha Prachar Samiti, member of All India Nirwan Mahotsava Maha Samiti and National Committee of Bhagwan Mahavir’s 2500th Nirvan Celebrations and its sub-committees.
Earlier honoured with the titles of ‘Sahitya Ratna’ and ‘Sahitya Varidhi’ he has been honoured with the title of ‘Vidya Varidhi’ on April 13, 1975 at a special function organised by Vir Nirwan Bharati at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi under the patronage of Muni Shri Vidyanandji.
Shri Yashpal has visited U S.S.R., Europeon countries, Burma, Thailand Cambodia, South Vietnam, Singapore, Malaya, Nepal, Africa, Mauritius, Fiji, Australia and Newzealand. His only son is settled in Canada and during May-June 1972 he paid a visit to Canada and U.S.A. and on the invitation from Carribean countries also visited Surinam, Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago.
He was born at Bijaigarh. Distt. Aligarh (U.P.) on September 1, 1912. Married to Smt. Adarsh Kumari Jain who is Lecturer in Hindi in Kalindi College, he has one son and one daughter.
