Around 140 kms from Guwahati a small hill name Surayapahad is situated in the state
of Assam. Many Jain idols have been unearthed here and are being worshipped as
local God/Goddess by many non-Jain Communities in the area. In the year 1975,
standing Idols of Adinath and Parswanath came to light, which were carved into the hill.
Again in the year 1994 another very old idol of Adinath was found. This idol dates back
to the 8th Centry as per Government Archaeologists. Bharatvarshiya Digambar Jain
Mahasabha took an initiative and formed a committee to build a temple to protect the
idols. Assam government has alloted 52 ‘bigha’ (20 Acre) land to the committee. Since
1994 annual gathering is held at the place to bring awareness about the location.
