Religious minded Lala Rai Krishan Jain, born at Ambala Cantt., was a well-known businessman and social figure.
After matriculation, he got a job in a post office at Ambala Cantt. in 1917, did his B.A. from Punjab University, Lahore in 1919, served in Army Head Quarters and resigned from there in 1922 during Non-Cooperation Movement. There after he started coal business in partnership and established its branches at Simla,
Delhi, Aligarh & Jharia. He settled down at Delhi in 1924. In years to come his firm Raj Krishan Prem Chand Jain gave him rich dividends in coal business.
He had also started property business in 1931 and was a well-known coloniser of Delhi. He was the first Chief Agent of Delhi Improvement Trust and played a prominent part in colonising Daryaganj, Bholanath Nagar in Shahdara, Jawahar Nagar, Friends Colony and Model Colony. He was ‘A’ class contractor of M.E.S, C.P.W.D. and Railways. He was Congress member of Delhi Municipal Committee from 1947 to 1951.
He had great faith in Jain saints and his house in Daryaganj was place of stay of many visiting Jain saints and authors. His son Shri Prem Chand Jain is aptly maintaing the tradition. He was Manager and Trustee of Vir Sewa Mandir Trust, Vice-President of Jain Balashram Daryaganj, Secretary of Dig. Jain Parishad (Delhi) and member of Jain Vidwat Parishad, Shastri Parishad, A.I. Dig. Jain Sangh Chaurasi (Mathura). He established Raj Krishan Jain Charitable Trust in 1945 which manages scholarships to deserving students, Ahimsa Mandir Library and Charitable Dispensary, Temple Nursing Home, Ahimsa Jinalaya, Tyagi Ashram, Guest House and publication of Jain literature. The Trust has published several books.
He established modern vegetarian Shakahar Hotel in 1960. He wrote Shravan- belgola and Jain Tirthas of South. His articles were published in several magazines.
