Pt. Jaichand chabra


Greatly learned Pt. Jaichand Chabra, a Khandelwal Jain, was born in village Phagi, 30 miles away from Jaipur, in 1738. Since the age of 11 he had started visiting the village Jain temple and participating in religious discussions. After settling at Jaipur, he much developed his religious knowledge in the company of great Pandits Banshidhar, Daulat Ram, Todarmal, Bhai Raimall and Bakhtram.

During 12-13 years of his literary life, starting from 1802, he wrote more than 15 important Tikas. His life and works both were much influenced by Pt. Todarmal.

He had good contacts with the Jaipur ruler Sawai Jagat Singh. In one of his works he has praised his administration. Affectionate Diwan Ram Chandra had freed him from all financial worries for livlihood to enable him to dedicate himself to literary work. Pt. Jaichand had studied the Jain tenets very thoroughly. His learned son Nandlal helped him in his literary writings.

Literary Works : Tatwartha Sutra Vach- nika, Sarwartha-sidhi Vachnika, Prameyaratna- mala Vachnika. Swami Kartikeyanupreksha Bhasha, DravyaiSangraha Vachnika, Samayasar Vachnika, Devagam Stotra (Apt Mimamsa), Ashtpahud Vachnika, Jnanarava Vachnika, Bhaktamar Stotra Vachnika, Pad Sangraha, Samayik Path Vachnika, Patra-pariksha Vachnika, Chandraprabh Charit (II Chapter) and Dhanya Kumar Vachnika.
