A learned scholar Pt. Vardhman Shastri was born at Mudbidri in Distt. South Canara (Karnataka) on March 27. 1909 in a family of scholars. His father Sh. Paras- wanath Shastri was well up in music and astrology and the elder brother Pt. Loknath Shastri was associated with the editing of Jai-Dhaval and Maha-Dhaval. Pt. Vardhman Shastri got education upto Higher Sec. standard at Mudbidri and passed Shastri and Nyay- atirtha examinations from Gopal Dig. Jain Sidhanta Mahavidyalaya, Morena. He was with R. B. Tikam Chand Soni at Ajmer for 3 years, was Head Master of Dig. Jain Mahavidyalaya there and also edited Syadwad Martand. Thereafter he joined as Editor of ‘Jain Bodhak’ Marathi weekly, the oldest magazine among the Jains at Sholapur and made it financially very strong. He set up his own Kalyan Power Printing Press at Sholapur in 1936 which he continues to run.
He is Secretary of Bombay Dig. Jain Examination Board since 1939, Secretary and Trustee of Acharya Kunthsagar Granthmala, Trustee of Vir Vani Vilas Jain Sidhanta Bhavan Mudbidri, Editor of Jain Gazette (Hindi weekly), Committee Member of A.!. Dig. Jain Vidwat Parishad and A.I. Dig. Jain Shastri Parishad and Member of the Karnataka Govt. Committee appointed for management of Shra- vanbelgola Tirthakshetra. He has written and edited about 60 books, prominent among which are Kalyanakarakam (famous Jain book on Indian medicine), Bharatesh Vaibhava (4 Vol.), Shatakatrya.
