Non-Attachment
A spiritual aspirant should neither cherish a desire to live nor long for death. He should remain neutral and have non-attachment for life as well as death.
True Fasting
That fasting is auspicious when the person observing it does not entertain any inauspicious thought, when his senses do not become weak and when the activities of his mind, speech and body remain unimpaired.
The Greatest Sacrifice
I perform the sacrifice which has been regarded as the greatest by the sages wherein austerity is the fire, the self is the hearth, right exertion is the sacrificial ladle, karma is the fuel, self-restraint and tranquillity are the oblations.
Annihilation of Karmas
As a large tank, when its supply of water has been blocked, gets gradually drained by consumption so do the karmas of a self-restrained monk accumulated over millions of births get annihilated by austerities, if there is no fresh influx of karmas.
Patience
Noble persons patiently bear the harsh, wounding and humiliating utterences of the wicked.
The Courangeous
No task daunts the courageous.
Equality
To treat as equal a piece of straw and gold, a friend and a foe constitutes Samanyika (equality).
Perfect Forgiveness
His forbearance is perfect, who does not get excited with anger even when terrible afflictions are caused to him by celestials, human beings and animals.
Forgivance
I forgive all living beings, may all living beings forgive me. I cherish friendliness towards all and harbour enmity towards none.
Forgiveness
When anger is conquered, the spirit of forgiveness springs in the soul.
Straight-Forwardness
He who does not think crookedly, does not act crookedly, does not speak crookedly and does not hide own weaknesses, observes the virtue of straight-forwardness.
Serene One !
O Serene one ! Give up all expectations, desires and prodigality.
Proud
A person who is proud is disliked by all. He definitely confronts conflicts, enmity, fear grief and disrespect in this world and the next.
Secrets
One should not reveal the secrets of others.
Modesty
When pride is overcome, a person becomes modest.
Content
A person who is content and does not desire a share in other’s profits sleeps happily.
Protection to All
Giving protection to living beings in fears of death is known as Abhayadana, which is supreme amongst all charities.
Charity
Charity is of four kinds : Food, medicines, scriptural knowledge and protection to living beings. This four-fold charity is declared worthy of performance.
