Shri Ajit Prasad Jain is a widely known respectable person of Delhi Jain Samaj. He was born at Sikandarabad in Distt. Bulandshahar (U.P.) in 1906. His philanthrophist father late Shri Munshi Lai Jain had a much respectable position. He carried on cloth business under the ancestral firm M/s. Nath Mai Manohar Lai in addition to banking and zamindari till his death at the age of 80 years.
Around 1930 he established Munshi Lai Charitable Dispensary in Karol Bagh which was visited even by Gandhiji and was later on shifted to Samant Bhadrashram, Daryaganj which was built by him at a cost of Rs. 2.5 lakhs at the inspiration of Ganesh Prasadji Varni. He established Munshilal Jain Charitable Trust in 1942 and gifted one of his buildings in Paharganj to the Trust.
Dispensary is now run by this trust. He was Trustee of Jain Society for Protection of Orphans (Daryaganj) and donated for constructions at several religious places. Shri Ajit Prasad Jain passed matriculation examination in 1919. He was an active sports man and captain of school football team.
He started seeing cloth business in the family firm M/s. Nathmal Manohar Lai, now known as M/s. Manohar Lai Ajit Prasad, at the age of 25 years. He set up another firm M/s. Munshi Lai Ajit Prasad in 1925 in Chandni Chowk which is doing whole-sale lace business.
He has been Junior and Senior Secretary of Delhi Hindustani Merchan- tile Association for about 15 years and was one of its arbitrators. Influenced by Mrs. Annie Besant he became active in Congress at the age of 17 and was member and Treasurer of Delhi District Congress Committee for three years.
He started social service as Manager of Jain Temple of mohalla Imli under Shri Prachin Aggarwal Dig. Jain Panchayat. He has been member. Mg. Committee of Jain Shiksha Board Kucha Seth, Secretary of Boys Jain School, Dharampura, Building Manager and General Secretary of Jain Society for Protection of Orphans for about 15 years and General Secretary of Executive Committee of the above Dig. Jain Panchayat.
He was Panch for about 8 years and Convenor (Sarpanch) of its Panch Committee. He is Vice-President of Shree Dharmik Ramlila Committee (Regd.) for 15 years, Trustee and Secretary of Satyawati Memorial Trust and Secretary of Lachhomal Sardari Mai Trust.
He is President of Jain Seva Samiti, Kucha Bulaqui Begum for about 18 years and has held responsible positions in various other social and religious institutions. Married to Smt. Vidyawati Jain in 1924 he has six sons and two daughters.
