Shri Pyare Lai Jain, an outstanding Advocate and illustrious social figure, was bom at Sardhana, Distt. Meerut (U.P.). He had appreciable influence in political, social and religious circles.
He was a member of the Viceroy’s Legislative Council and President of Delhi Municipal Committee for many years. For about 40 years he was President of Delhi Bar Association. He was a member of Executive Council of Delhi University, President of Governing Body of Hindu College, Delhi throughout his life, President of Ramlila Committee Delhi, member of Governing Body of Indian Red Cross Society and Director of Punjab National Bank.
He took active interest in national movement and was a member of A.I.C.C. While he was General Secretary of Congress Session held at Delhi in 1919 he surrendered the title of Rai Saheb.
He remained Panch of Prachin Shri Agarwal Dig. Jain Panchayat till his death and was President of A.I. Dig. Jain Mahasabha and Jain Society for Protection of Orphans for several years. The historic Bimb Prati- stha of Panchayati Mandir, Masjid Khajoor was organised under his Presidentship. He held senior positions also in other institutions.
Girdhari Lai Pyare Lai Educational Fund was founded by him in 1930 for award of scholarships to deserving students.
